silly worthless hard-core porn
Rating (1)
Date: 2010-04-24
This is a very bad schizo novel: part Hollywood insider gossip, part sleazy porno. One half of it is a roman a clef about the famous William Desmond Taylor murder in Hollywood, for which there were many suspects, and this book doubles that number. The other half of it is hard core porn every few pages, but the author uses bizarre silly euphemisms for body parts, and the thing become ludicrous when you keep encountering "dingle-dangle" and "tail" for the male member and even sillier terms for female parts. According to the introduction, this was written in 1933 by a German woman who had escaped to Hollywood in hopes of finding a career there. She didn't intend it for publication during her lifetime. It has been translated (archly...with some bizarre grammar errors) and published now that she has passed on. It is not worth reading. Do not waste your time on this silly thing. There are better books about the WD Taylor murder and there are certainly better porn novels.

not "one handed" reading
Rating (2)

Interesting reading for a look at Hollywood during the 1930's. Not good "one handed" reading, if that's what you're after. The plot is a murder mystery which helps hold it together, but to classify it a "mystery" is giving it too much credit.
